The Administrative Board of the ‘AzScienceNet’ Science Computer Network (SCN) has held its next meeting  in the Information Technologies Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science (ANAS). The meeting was opened by a presentation, made by a corresponding member of ANAS, professor Rasim Aliguliyev, in which he underlined the significant role played by AzScienceNet in expanding cooperation and adopting international experience. 

In his statement R. Aliguliyev also gave some recommendations on activities to be implemented for organization of AzScienceNet’s services such as ‘Eduroam’, ‘Cloud computing’, ‘Grid’ and ‘Content providing’. While speaking about the process of formation of the powerful ICT infrastructure in Azerbaijan, he noted the important role played by the Information Technologies Institute of AMEA in preparing highly qualified cadres. 

The scientist provided the meeting with interesting information on issues discussed at the 37th session of the General Assembly of the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association (TERENA), which took place on May 24-25, 2012 in Reykjavik.  The chief engineer of the Information Technologies Institute of ANAS, Dphil in technical sciences, Rashid Alekperov gave a report on the activities implemented within AzScienceNet’s  Action Plan for 2012. 

He informed the meeting about the current situation, prospects for the development of the AzScienceNet, as well as activities implemented for  strengthening the material and technical basis of AzScienceNet and creating its web-site.

‘By realizing the ‘e-Science’ project the Information Technologies Institute will insure the integration of Azerbaijani science into the International Scientific Networks. Activities are now being implemented to create the register system for AzScienceNet’s web-site  based on the single data base. The ‘Network monitoring and information security service’ has been created in order to insure information security of the ‘AzScienceNet’ network. 

The ‘AZ-CERT’ agency and anti-spam and antivirus services have been created in order to give operative reaction to possible information security accidents in the network, gather information about these accidents, conduct scientific and analytical investigations and establish bilateral relations with international organizations’, he said in his statement to the meeting. The head of the International Relations Department of the Information Technologies Institute of ANAS Vugar Musayev also made a statement at the activity. 

He spoke about the importance of the development of relations with TERENA and its different structures. In his statement V.Musayev  noted that certain measures had already been taken for establishing cooperation with  Turkish ULAKNET and ULAKBIM scientific institutions.

The head of the sector Babek Nabiyev spoke about the creation of the ‘AZ-CERT’ service at the ‘AzScienceNet’ network and importance of establishing international cooperation for the prevention of information security accidents  and provision of operative response to them.  The head of the sector Mammad Mammadov spoke about the organization of the ‘Eduroam’ service at the ‘AzScienceNet’ network.

‘Now, users of the ‘Eduroam’ service can connect to the Global Internet Network from any place of the world. We are going to create  the ‘Eduroam’ services in the networks of scientific and educational institutions in Azerbaijan in order to connect these networks to the International  Eduroam Network.The meeting concluded with a broad discussion of topics, included in the agenda of the meeting.
