Yesterday, the Australia government has invited members of the public and businesses to have their say on Australia’s first ever Cyber White Paper meant to outline a vision for Australia’s digital future based on Australian values.

For the next two months (until 15 November 2011), Australia citizens can contribute to the white paper on issues regarding the importance of cyberspace to Australia’s social well-being, economic prosperity and broader national interests on a public discussion paper is hosted on a blog run by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Apart from informing the public, the blog professed: “More importantly, we want to hear from you on how we can enable individuals and businesses to fully optimise the benefits of cyberspace for all Australians.”

“The result of these conversations will inform the key judgements of Australia’s first ever Cyber White Paper.”

This white paper will examine how governments, businesses and individuals can realise the full benefits of cyberspace while at the same time ensuring current and emerging risks can be managed.

This will be done by coverage of areas including consumer protection, cyber safety, cyber crime, cyber security and cyber defence.

The development of the paper is lead by the Prime Minister and Cabinet and it is expected to be ready in the first half of 2012.
