The share of Internet Explorer fell below 15% for the first time

For the first time in many years, Internet Explorer's share of the global browser market has fallen below 15%.

According to the NetMarketShare, which tracks the activity of more than 160 million unique users viewing over 40,000 websites around the world, in September 2017, Internet Explorer was used in 14.18% of computers globally to access the Internet, against 15.58% a month earlier.

Chrome remains to be the most popular web browser. Its share declined in August for the first time in a long time, but in September the growth resumed, and Chrome’s share reached 59.6 percent during the first month of 2017. The top three also includes Firefox with its share of 12.85%.

The share of Internet Explorer began to decline rapidly after Microsoft stopped supporting all versions of the browser, except the eleventh, in early 2016. Since that time, security updates and technical support haven’t been provided for Internet Explorer 10 and older versions of Microsoft's web browser.

Currently, Microsoft actively promotes its other browser - Edge. However, its share in September 2017 fell to 5.15% from 5.66% a month earlier. The company says that Edge is used by owners of 330 million devices, which is twice as much as in April 2016.

In October 2017, Microsoft released a mobile version of Edge for iOS and Android devices, which can be  downloaded on the developer's website, dailycomm.ru reports.
