Nokia 9 looks likely to have a dual-lens front-facing camera

Just yesterday reports emerged claiming the forthcoming flagship Nokia 9 would have a 5-megapixel selfie camera; a disappointment by today’s standards.

However, there might be more to it than meets the eye. NokiaPowerUser received a tip claiming it’ll be a dual-camera module, making it one of the few of its kind.

While the FCC certification notes the camera will be made by Chicony, the tipster says it’ll be the Chicony CKACE16 module in particular.

That has a dual 5-megapixel camera, 1080p video and f/2.4 and f2.0 lenses. Judging by previous form, it appears likely HMD Global will add Zeiss lenses to that package.

This nugget backs up a recently leaked render showing a dual-camera selfie cam.

The Nokia 9, running Android, is likely to arrive in the first couple of months of 2018 and will probably be the most expensive HMD-made Nokia yet. Nokia may be holding an event in China on January 19, which seems like a solid candidate for launch.

Speculation has suggested it’ll have a 5.5-inch QHD OLED display with super-slim bezels. That makes it slightly larger than the 5.3-inch Nokia 8, the current flagship.

Elsewhere there have been rumors of a Snapdragon 835 processor and up to 8GB RAM, depending on the model.

While we’d be hopeful for Android Oreo, it’s possible the handset will ship with 2016’s Android Nougat.
