Azerbaijani section of EPEG project to be launched in test mode by end-2011


The Azerbaijani section of the Europe Persia Express Gateway (EPEG) project will be launched in test mode by the end of the year, Delta Telecom technical director Raid Alekberli told.

 


According to Alekberli, the project participants agreed to complete the technical work on the project until the end of 2011 during the last meeting in Baku. This work includes creating international connections infrastructure, and joining networks and containers transit.
 

 

According to preliminary calculations the cost of construction of the Azerbaijani segment will be approximately $3 million.
EPEG participants are Iranian TIC (Telecommunication Infrastructure Company), the Omani Omantel, Russian "Rostelecom" and international C & W (Cable & Wireless).

 

Azerbaijani Delta Telecom offers its infrastructure for transit traffic passing on the highway.
Delta Telecom infrastructure capable of providing a transit international internet channels container traffic, as well as voice and data services.
 

 

Cable route EPEG originates in Oman and will be laid to Frankfurt. It will pass through the territories of three countries (Azerbaijan, Poland and Ukraine), whose operators do not participate in the EPEG consortium. These routes will be held in rented facilities in each of the three states.

 

The capacity of EPEG cable line will be up to 3.2 Tbit / s, and its length is six thousand miles. The preliminary project cost is estimated at approximately $ 200 million. The cable line launch is expected in May 2012.
