The mobile phone IMEI-code registration in Azerbaijan will be launched in December, the Deputy Minister of Communications and IT Iltimas Mammadov told media.
He said that the introduction of code registration system is an important component in preventing the illegal import of mobile phones to the country that are problematic for both mobile operators and users, because they do not correspond to the standards.
According to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, the registration center has been established. The operators have made necessary actions, Mammadov said.
The work has been carried out for three years to create IMEI-code registration system in Azerbaijan. The project was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers in early 2012. The project involves GSM-operators and state departments.
The database will be supplemented by ІMEІ codes of mobile phones that will be imported into the Azerbaijani territory. The new order will allow combating theft and illegal importation of phones in Azerbaijan.
