The number of users of broadband internet services has grown up in the regions of Azerbaijan. This information was provided by technical director of Aztelekom Production Unit Zahir Valiyev. According to him, since the beginning of the current year, the number of broadband internet users has grown 51,000 people (100 percent), and now the total number of users of broadband internet services exceeds 102,000 people in the country. The monthly volume of broadband internet services in last month was 75 percent more than at the beginning of this year.
Presently, broadband services account for 18.5 percent of the total amount of revenues. As a comparison, this figure for the same period of last year was 8.7 percent”. The technical director also said that a new project, envisaging replacement of connecting lines of EATSs at Aztelekom’s telephone network with fiber-optic cables, as well as modernization and widening of the telephone network by expanding the application of information technologies in servicing areas of regional telecommunication hubs, was developed in order to provide people living in cities, settlements and villages in the regions with broadband internet services. Within the project, Aztelekom signed cooperation agreements with 7 internet-providers.
Under the cooperation agreements, 570 km optic cable was allocated for 17 telecommunication hubs. 514 km of this cable has already been laid. In villages, connecting lines of EATSs of 12 of the mentioned 17 telecommunication hubs were replaced with fiber-optic cables.
On the whole, within the project, more than 1,700 km of fiber-optic cable lines were laid and installation works started. Besides that, in villages, connecting lines of EATSs of 23 out of 45 telecommunication hubs were replaced with fiber-optic cables. In addition to the first project, a project on the development of broadband internet services in servicing areas of regional telecommunication hubs of Aztelekom Production Unit in 2013-2015 was prepared and presented for including to the relevant programs. Let’s note that the number of subscribers to the services rendered by regional telecommunication hubs exceeds 668,000 people. There are now 12.1 telephones for every 100 people, and 57.8 telephones for every 100 households in the servicing area of Aztelekom.
