Honor Note 10 goes official with huge screen, huge battery, middling price

Huawei’s fast-growing Honor sub-brand may or may not be looking to unveil its latest flagship phone on a Western stage at the IFA trade show in Berlin next month, but until then, the Honor Note 10 has gone official in China earlier today ahead of a local commercial launch tomorrow, August 1.
 
As thoroughly leaked, this is one massive handset, packing a battery almost as large as the one found under the hood of Apple’s 7.9-inch iPad mini 4. We’re talking a 5,000 mAh cell purportedly capable of lasting around 18 hours between charges in continuous video playback time.
 
The gargantuan battery has a fittingly huge 6.95-inch AMOLED display to keep chugging along, as well as a powerful Huawei Kirin 970 SoC including built-in artificial intelligence. The 18.5:9 2220 x 1080 screen comes with fashionably thin bezels housing a 13MP selfie camera and “chin”-mounted logo, while the fingerprint scanner is located on the back, at a nice distance from a vertically-arranged dual 16 + 24MP rear shooter setup.
 
All three cameras are AI-enhanced to automatically recognize various scenes and environments, adjust lighting conditions, and of course, beautify your self-portraits, with EMUI-skinned Android 8.1 Oreo software in charge of keeping everything running nice and smooth.
 
In addition to the already well-known GPU Turbo technology, the Honor Note 10 also supports a brand-new proprietary CPU Turbo mode aiming to squeeze the most out of Huawei’s latest high-end chipset for when you need raw power more than energy efficiency.
 
Hardcore (mobile) gamers shouldn’t worry about overheating, though, as this hot new hero device promises to stay nice and cool at all times thanks to some neat liquid cooling tricks. A pair of state-of-the-art speakers and Dolby Atmos sound enhancements wrap up a truly impressive spec sheet… for a phone that costs as little as CNY 2,799 ($410). An extra 400 yuan, or around $60, bumps up the entry-level storage space from 64 to 128 gigs while retaining a generous 6GB RAM. The top-tier configuration, pairing 128GB digital hoarding room with 8 full gigs of memory, is priced at 3,599 yuan, roughly equating to $525.
 
That’s a very reasonable pricing structure, but it remains to be seen how it will convert in Europe. If the Honor Note 10 is coming to the old continent after all.
