The Baku Telephone Network Production Association (BTRIB) is forecasting that use of broadband Internet will double in 2012.
At present the capital's Internet network has 130,000 broadband Internet users, BTRIB General Director Beytulla Huseynov said.
"Some 70% of them are subscribers to private providers. Over the last year the number of broadband Internet users in Baku quadrupled and next year we are expecting an increase to 250,000 subscribers," he said.
BTRIB is working to improve conditions for private Internet providers to work in all the capital's telephone exchanges.
"This year we completed work to reconstruct the 493/498 exchanges through moving to next generation technology. The next stage is to transfer the 432/434, 421/422 exchanges to next generation technology," Huseynov said.
