Apple will hold a major launch event next week, according to its own Siri digital assistant.
The event is yet to be officially revealed but asking the voice assistant for information on the next Apple gave information about when it would occur.
“The special event is on Tuesday, April 20 at Apple Park in Cupertino, CA,” the message read.
Apple’s website did not include any information about the event, suggesting the message had been added to Siri prematurely. The company typically announces its launch events around a week before they happen, and so official invitations may follow later on Tuesday.
Apple is rumoured to be preparing a number of products for imminent launch, including new iPads, a new iMac, and the long-rumoured AirTags that will be used for tracking objects. But it was unclear whether those would be launched at an event or simply through an update on its website.
The “special event” will almost certainly be held entirely online: recently, it announced that its annual Worldwide Developers’ Conference would happen in June, but without the traditional in-person element, and broadcast over the internet.
Apple, like other tech companies, has been holding all of its launch events online since the pandemic began. Its presentations usually consist of pre-recorded videos where executives explain new products to the camera, often with flashy graphics.
It is still not clear what the company will look to launch at the event, though the iPads, iMacs and AirTags remain heavily rumoured.
The iPads themselves could be difficult to buy after their release, as a result of production problems with the new display technology that is expected to arrive with them, according to a report from Bloomberg. They are also expected to include improved processors and cameras, reports have claimed.
The new iMac will likely be the next computer to receive an update to include Apple’s own chips, after it announced that it would be moving towards powering all of its computers with processors of its own design. The first of those computers arrived late last year, in the form of a MacBook Air, Pro and Mac Mini.
AirTags have been rumoured for years, and are rumoured to consist of small tags that can be added to valuable items such as bags or keys. They will then be able to be located by iPhones, using the same “Find My” app that can currently be used to look for other people, devices and even third-party items that have been added to Apple’s frameworks.
