Women buy 70% of ‘people’s computers’


So far, 17,888 computers have been sold within the implementation of the ‘People’s Computer’ project.  Out of this figure 2,842 computers have been sold in Baku, and 15,046 – in regions. The second largest number of computers (1,685 pcs.) has been sold in the Nakhichevan AR, and the third (795 pcs.) – in Ganja. Among the people who have purchased the computers 70% were women and the rest 30% - men.

This information was presented to ‘ICTnews’ by an employee of the ‘BestComp Group’ company.  According to the information, 80% of the sold computers were notebooks, and the rest 20% were personal computers. In comparison with the same period of last year, the number of sold computers has increased by 33% that is around 6,000 pcs.  As part of the realization of the ‘People’s Computer’ project, The ‘BestComp Group’ company provides new models of computers on regular basis.

 Let’s note that the ‘People’s Computer’ project aims at creating favorable conditions for providing different social levels of the population with modern computers and licensed software, eliminating ‘digital inequality’ by steadily widening the application of information and communication technologies in the regions, and supporting the activities being implemented for the development of the information community of the Azerbaijani Government, including the e-Government.

 Within the framework of the project the families of pupils and teachers of comprehensive schools, the families of students and teachers of colleges and universities and the families of civil servants and employees of medical institutions can obtain computers with 12 months interest-free loan or at prices which are 25-40% lower than market prices. The ’People’s Computer’ project is a joint initiative of the Ministries of Education and Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is being realized by the ‘Microsoft’ and ‘HP’ companies.

The ‘BestComp Group’ company is responsible for supply of computers.  The ‘Azercell’ and ‘Azerfon’ mobile communication operators are also participating in the project. Delivery of computers and collection of monthly payments are carried out by the ‘Azerpoct’ LLC.
