ICT board to advise New South Wales on government IT
The New South Wales government has established an ICT board of director-generals from various departments and agencies whose first task is to develop an ICT strategy for the government whose annual expenditure on ICT is approximately US$2.14 billion.
With the support of an ICT Leadership Group made up of agency CIOs, and an ICT Advisory Panel of private sector representatives, the board will be responsible for setting public sector ICT priorities, monitoring major government projects and providing high level visibility of agency compliance with agreed objectives and targets, said Greg Pearce, Finance and Services Minister.
The board will be chaired by the Director-General of the Department of Finance and Services Michael Coutts-Trotter, and board members will represent the departments of Premier and Cabinet, Education, Health, Trade and Infrastructure, Transport, and Treasury.
“The NSW government has established a new ICT governance framework underpinning our commitment to make NSW the leader in ICT,” Pearce said. ““To achieve this goal, we need clear direction and a strong mandate to take ideas forward. Industry also needs to be at the table providing insight into innovative solutions and emerging technologies.”
The ICT Leadership Group will comprise of a CIO and deputy director-general from each of the state’s nine cluster agencies—Attorney General and Justice; Education; Family and Community Services; Finance and Services; Health; Premier and Cabinet; Trade and Investment; Transport; and Treasury—while the ICT Advisory Panel will have four to five representatives of the ICT industry and research organisations chosen by Pearce under advice from his department. This board is expected to meet monthly and anyone interested in joining the Advisory Panel is encouraged by Pearce to indicate their interest via email to nswict@services.nsw.gov.au.
