Robots built by students to take part in competition

Khazar Engineers Association conducted another student competition with support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The “Line Following” competition was organized with the aim of developing creative skills of young people. This information was provided to “ICTnews” online news service by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

According to the ministry, at the competition robots built by students have to move as fast as possible along the black line and complete the course in the shortest period of time while accurately tracking the course line from start to finish. Under the conditions of the contest, each robot is given 3 trials to complete the course. The robot completing the course in the fastest time is declared the winner of the competition. The students, who wanted to take part in the contest, filled out electronic applications at the Khazar Engineers Association’s website http://thecesworld.org/site/.

Out of all the students, who had applied for the contest, 49 nominees fulfilling the competition’s requirements were chosen and invited to take part in the second stage of the contest that was held in Khazar University in November 2012. During the second stage of the competition tests were held to check the nominees’ skills and capabilities in such areas as logical thinking, information technologies and electronics. The 20 students, who were able to successfully pass these tests, continued their participation in the competition. It should be noted that the selected participants of the contest are currently taking part in both theoretical and practical trainings on robot technologies.

The final stage of the contest is expected to be held in mid-February. At this stage different teams of the contestants attending the trainings will have to prepare independently designs of robot machines. The team, which will be first to complete the task, will be the winner of the contest.

Both students and experts are showing interest in “AzRoboTex” project, under which a robot laboratory will be built at Khazar Engineers Association. “Robotech” competitions are now being held in Turkey, Russia, Great Britain, Japan, South Korea, US, Germany and other countries. In future winners of “AzRoboTech” contest will be representing Azerbaijan abroad at “Robotech” competitions and festivals.
