Korea helps launch digital library in Rwanda

Rwanda Development Board (RDB) in partnership with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has launched a digital library. RDB Chief Operating Officer Clare Akamanzi, who was present at the launch, said the library will be used by all 30 Business Development Services (BDS) centres across Rwanda.

As these centres are present in each district in the country, they will do well in aiding the progress of the project. Each BDC will be provided tablet computers to enable people to access and produce digital content and allow for seamless flow of information. There are plans to create a bulletin board which will let students share notes and ideas.

Pegged as a model ICT collaboration, the aim of the project is to increase the presence of computers in Rwanda’s rural areas. RDB plans to further the initiative by making available books, images as well as audio and video files for educational purposes by setting up a digital library.

The government plans to implement the e-library project this financial year itself. The e-library is available at www.elibrarywanda.com. The project is expected to usher in a new era of knowledge economy in the country.
