Satellite put into orbit to better predict natural disasters
An ocean exploring satellite called Jason-3 has been launched into orbit by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base’s Space Launch Complex 4, according to representatives of the US space agency. The satellite will help US and EU scientists to carry out scientific observation of the world ocean surface for the better prediction of natural disasters, tracking animal migration and evaluation of the effects of climate change. The "predecessors" of the satellite, Jason-1 and Jason-2, were delivered into orbit in 2001 and 2008, respectively. Jason-1 stopped operating in 2013, and Jason-2 still keeps working, according to ITAR-TASS.
