Singapore transport authority to launch CCTV trial

Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) looks to launch a six-month trial of advanced CCTVs that will provide 24-hour monitoring of the streets and illegal parking. This marks the first time CCTVs have been used by LTA on illegal parking.

The move is expected to save on manpower that checks on roadside parking violations and to improve the efficiency of law enforcement. Right now, LTA sends inspectors for patrols to clamp down on illegal parking. Footage from the cameras will also be used as evidence in court.

LTA expects that the use of technology can be a deterrent and prompt motorists to follow rules and regulations better. LTA has already invited tenders on the test. The successful bidder will have a six-month test period to monitor and submit a report.
