AT&T and 19Labs put a ‘doctor’ in a first aid kit with GALE (VIDEO)

At-home first aid kits are typically just a bunch of bandages, gauzes, and other products stuffed into a little box. Yet, without knowing how to properly use these tools, the first aid kits may end up providing little help in emergency situations. We may soon see a smart aid kit hit the market from a company called 19Labs, based in Menlo Park, California.

The GALE first aid kit features a number of compartments that organize the medical supplies, and a touchscreen display on the inside cover is used to access instructions on how to perform different procedures. These include cuts, burns, concussions, fractures, and a bunch of other common situations that can strike anyone at home. There are tools like a thermometer and pulse oximeter included and others can be ordered as needed.

If additional assistance is required beyond the built-in instructions, the GALE can video-connect with on-call health experts to provide personalized assistance in more complicated situations. Moreover, family members and overseeing clinicians can also be notified if there’s a situations. This is done over the AT&T’s cellular network, which means the kit can even go on the road as long as there’s network coverage, and a built-in handle is used to transport the device that neatly blends into the container once set down on a table.

The kit can be refilled straight from the touchscreen interface by simply tapping on the supplies you’re running out of that will be delivered by mail.
