LG V30 to feature 6-inch QHD+ OLED FullDivision display, confirms company

LG is preparing for its next major smartphone release later this month at IFA consumer electronics trade show in Berlin. While several crucial aspects of the widely rumoured LG V30 have already been revealed by leakers and other sources, LG has now confirmed that its upcoming flagship will feature a 6-inch OLED panel.

The South Korean tech giant in a press release that was sent out on Tuesday announced that its next flagship will be the “first ever device” from the company to feature a “plastic OLED FullVision” display. The FullVision display on the new device suggests that it will likely have a taller 18:9/2:1 aspect ratio and thin bezels similar to the LG G6. LG said that the smartphone will come with a QHD+ OLED FullVision display with 20 percent less upper and 50 percent lower bezels compared to its predecessor, the LG V20. It further says that the OLED panel will deliver 148 percent of the sRGB colour space for digital images and 109 percent of the DCI-P3 colour space for digital camera. The display will come with support for HDR10 as well which is said to deliver a “whole new eye-opening experience”.

LG in its press release explained that one of the advantages of the OLED technology is its operational response time which is faster compared to LCD display. The display on the phone is said to be based on plastic OLED panel (aka P-OLED) which will allow for edges to be curved for a more ergonomic design. LG says that it will offer a better feel in the hand and utilise advanced encapsulation, pixel scanning technology to eliminate oxidation of pixels.

“Encapsulation significantly reduces oxidation of the pixels and LG’s pixel-scanning technology allows for less energy to be applied to each pixel, also saving battery power,” LG said in its press release.

While these are official information being outed by LG itself, an ‘exclusive report’ from Android Authority has revealed that the new smartphone will be done away with the signature V series feature, the second screen. The upcoming flagship will instead come with a “floating bar” that will offer similar features like the second screen. The LG V30 is also said to sport rear sensor having f/1.6 aperture which will offer improved low-light camera performance.

LG’s new flagship is expected to be announced at the IFA event in Berlin on August 31. And while a few official details have started to trickle out we believe more will be revealed ahead of the smartphone’s official launch given that LG made a similar move before the flagship G6’s announcement as well.
