I-O Data created a wireless DVD-drive for smartphones

Japanese company I-O Data presented a rather curious novelty – external optical drive DVRP-W8AI2, intended for use with smartphones and tablets

Data is exchanged between the drive and the mobile gadget via wireless Wi-Fi: IEEE 802.11ac / n / a / g / b standards are supported. Thus, owners of smartphones and tablets can view multimedia devices stored on optical disks on the screen of their device.

To work with the drive, you need to install a companion mobile application. It's about supporting Android 4.2.2 and higher operating systems, as well as iOS 8 and higher.

The drive can read CD and DVD media. In addition, it is possible to record audio discs. During operation, the device should be positioned horizontally.

The power supply is received by the novelty from the electrical network via the adapter. You can also use a portable battery, which you will have to purchase separately. Dimensions are 145 × 168 × 19 mm, weight – about 430 grams.

The optical drive DVRP-W8AI2 will be on sale in the near future for an estimated price of 120 euros.
