Acer unveils the TravelMate B114-21 laptop, which can be opened up at a 180-degree angle
Acer has unveiled its first AMD-based Windows laptop for the education market: the TravelMate B114-21. The device has been specifically designed to be used by either students or teachers – it has even been tested at MIL-STD 810G standards to help it survive the bumps and knocks of student life. The TravelMate operates on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and can be opened up at a 180-degree angle to aid with content sharing.
The B114-21 offers two choices in regard to display: a 14-inch Full HD option and an HD option. As mentioned above, there is a 7th generation dual-core AMD APU with Radeon graphics present, and up to 16 GB RAM can be fitted in single-channel mode (one soDIMM module). For storage, a 256 GB PCIe NVMe SSD is offered as the top-end choice, but users can also select from a 128 GB SSD, 500 GB HDD, or even 32/64 GB eMMC flash memory.
Acer claims the sturdy laptop can last for 10 hours, which should be more than enough for a typical day in class. Connectivity options include 1x HDMI, 1x USB 3.1 Gen1, 2x USB 2.0, and an SD card reader. The Wi-Fi standards 802.11a/b/g/n/ac are covered, Bluetooth 4.2 is onboard, and there is an Ethernet (RJ-45) port. Even though a rubber bumper is present to help the TravelMate B114-21 survive any falls, it still manages to look stylish and has an overall clean aesthetic.
The Acer TravelMate B114-21 should become available by the second quarter of 2019 and has an MSRP of US$319.
