Google affected by global login failure, affecting Gmail and Google Docs

Google suffered a worldwide outage that impacted users when they signed up for the company's many applications, including Gmail and Google Docs, and any website that allows access through a Google Account.

The problem lasted almost two hours and started around the clock at 23 o'clock BST. The company said it had a problem with logging in to OAuth and a problem with the Admin console on Wednesday night. The problem was resolved shortly before 1o'clock CEST.

Users reported issues in the US, UK, India, Singapore, South Africa, Europe and Australia.

Many users were greeted with an error page when logging in, indicating logon attempts, Error 502 and the prompt to try again in 30 seconds.

Google said they would investigate the problem internally and "make appropriate improvements to our systems to prevent or minimize the recurrence".
