Baktelecom expands scope of ‘Optics to Home’ project

Baku Telephone Communications LLC (Baktelecom) of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies successfully continues the process of connecting apartment buildings to the optical network within the framework of the project “Optics to Home”.

As part of the project, old copper cables of various capacities in 40,000 apartments in densely populated Khatai and Yasamal districts of Baku have been replaced with fiber optic cables meeting modern standards.

Work is also underway to connect more apartment buildings in Garadagh and Surakhani districts to the optic network in order to provide their residents with high-quality multimedia services.

Baktelecom is gradually expanding the scope of the project so as to increase the availability of broadband services for the population. In near future, old and new buildings in Nizami district of Baku will be also connected to the broadband network.

The reconstruction works are being carried out with the use of GPON technology (Gigabit Passive Optical Network), which offers such advantages as up to 100 Mbit/s connection, uninterrupted internet, non-dependence on telephone lines, etc.

Note that the project “Optics to Home” covers both modern-type residential compounds and 9-storey buildings.  Within the project, users are provided with internet equipment at no charge. And they get the opportunity to use telephone, internet and IPTV services through one optical line.
