Postage stamps on the theme of “Ancient Postal Routes” put into circulation in Azerbaijan

Azermarka LLC under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies has issued new postage stamps within the framework of the European program. This year’s theme of the program is "Ancient Postal Routes". Each of the three stamps with different designs depicts a messenger, as well as the medieval postal routes of Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that the courier service in Azerbaijan was created in 1501 by Shah Ismail Khatai and thus the foundation for postal service at the state level was laid.

The stamps created by chief artist of Azermarka Vugar Ayyubov are made in the form of one souvenir sheet, two small sheets of twelve stamps each and a booklet of eight stamps. The stamps were printed in the French printing house Cartor Security Printing (CSP). Additionally, 400 First Day covers were issued.

It should be noted that Europa stamps are postage stamps issued by member countries of the European Trade Association of National Postal Operators (PostEurop) as a joint annual issue on a common theme. The collection of stamps "Europa" is one of the most widespread areas of philately in the world. The first stamps within the framework of this program in Azerbaijan were dedicated to the theme "Novruz bayrami" in 1998.

In addition, PostEurop has organized a poll on its website for the best design of postage stamps on the theme of Europa 2020. The poll, which started on May 9, will end on September 9. You can take part in the poll by clicking on the following link.
