ICT revenues grew by almost 12%


Revenue in the information technology and communications sector grew by almost 12% in 2011 compared to 2010, the ICT minister has said.

Ali Abbasov gave the figures at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday to review socioeconomic development in 2011.

He said that some AZN 400m ($508m) were invested in the sector last year.
The stationary telephone network to CIS countries was digitalized for the first time in Azerbaijan last year, while the capacity of the stationary telephone system rose by about 50,000 .

Moreover, the country moved to the standard international numbering system, the minister said.
Ali Abbasov said that the mobile communications network had expanded. All three mobile operators have introduced 3G services and the number of 3G subscribers has reached two million in a short period.

Today, there are 110 mobile phones for every 100 people in Azerbaijan, which is 40% higher than the world average. There are more than 20 Internet television and radio channels in the country, the minister said.
