State authorities conduct monitoring activities in Azerbaijan’s mobile devices market

State authorities are currently conducting monitoring activities to ensure the implementation of existing legislation in the mobile devices market.  This information was provided to ‘ICTnews’ by Director of the ICT Information Center, Farid Kazimov.

According to him, the monitoring activities are being jointly implemented by state authorities  in order to prevent selling counterfeit and illegally imported mobile telephones in  the domestic market.   The state authorities are currently carrying out inspections in the sales outlets that sell mobile devices.

Mr. Kazimov informed that the joint monitoring reveled facts of selling counterfeit mobile phones, which carry famous trademarks, in the domestic market.  In order to insure protection of rites of consumers and implementation of legislation the state authorities must put an end to the sale of counterfeit mobile telephones and start prosecuting all the persons responsible for these illegal activities.

Results of the monitoring also revealed that some stores were selling module devises, which don’t have conformity certificates.  These measures can be viewed as another step towards the formation of  a civil mobile devises market in Azerbaijan.

Over the last few years serious measures have been implemented in Azerbaijan to increase transparency of the country’s mobile devise segment, and to bring this segment to the level of European countries.

This process was accelerated by the introduction of the Mobile Devices Registration System, following  the Cabinet of Ministers’ approval of the ‘Mobile Devices Registration  Regulations’.  I believe that these monitoring activities will insure protection of consumers and implementation of legislation in the mobile devises market of our country.
