Taipei launches civic information services for TV audiences

As part of an on-going effort to provide citizens with more convenient ways of accessing public information. The Taipei city government launched earlier this week the “Taipei City Express Service” which aims to expand the government’s civic information services to TV audiences. Going online 24/7 via mobile devices and laptops has become an everyday practice for most people. However, this is commonly seen in a demographic age group of 45 and below, while those above the age of 45 are still used to watching TV as a way of obtaining information. According to Taipei City spokesman Chang Chi-chiang, the “Taipei City Express Service” is user-friendly and provides instant information, intended to familiarise citizens with government policies and events that are taking place.
With the “Taipei City Express Service”, citizens can easily look up real-time information on Taipei Public Bus locations, as well as timetables of Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taiwan Railways. In addition, the Express service offers updated messages from the Emergency Operations Centre of Taipei City every five minutes and also enable users to access latest information on reservoir discharge notices, evacuation measures, suspension of classes and office work, and as well as relief shelter arrangements. At present, residents whose TV is equipped with Multimedia On Demand platform will be able to receive first-hand and free information regarding city administration.
