Hackers can inflict $ 2 trillion damage to the global economy in 2019

Damage to the global economy from ICT-related crimes may reach $ 2 trillion in 2019. This statement was made by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation, Ilya Rogachev, during his speech at the G-77 seminar on combating cybercrime.

"I would like to recall that in 2016, the world economy sustained $ 445 billion damage from crimes committed with the use of ICT. Unless we take decisive measures to combat this threat, this figure may increase to $ 2 trillion in 2019 and up to $ 3 trillion in 2020," he said.

”The damage from cybercrime may exceed the aggregate revenue from the Internet.  As a result, most users will stop using the global network, which will cease to exist in its present form," Ilya Rogachev added.

He specified that using ICT for criminal purposes implies offenses committed with sordid motives and for profit, as well as cyberbullying and hacker attacks, Searchengines reports.
