How to ensure the safety of children on the Internet?

As a result of the rapid development of high technologies, the Internet has become an integral part of everyone's life, including that of children. Today, children, just like adults, use the Internet as a means to express themselves in "virtual space". The Internet enables children to access information and to participate in public discussions. However, experts believe that the openness and accessibility of the Internet may pose a major threat to children.

Therefore, UN experts propose to teach children how to behave safely on the internet and adopt laws criminalizing violence against children in cyberspace.  In this case, how should children who use the Internet for both studying and leisure time use the Internet?

Given the urgency of the issue, the Electronic Security Centre under the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies has issued the following guidance on the proper use of the Internet.

-          Pay attention to websites accessed by your children, and regularly check the safety of these websites.

-          Inform your children about harmful websites and the dangers that can come from using them.

-          Help your children to choose and save complex password codes.

-          Filter harmful content and use filtering software to prevent children from accessing   harmful websites. Such software can also help parents to monitor the websites accessed by their children.

-          Be aware of the games that the children play on the Internet.

-          Don allow the children to use the Internet without parental control.

-          Inform the children about the dangers of socializing with strangers online.

-          Join the children’s conversation on the Internet. Keep an eye open for those persons with whom your child is chatting on the Internet.

-          Inform your children about risks associated with the dissemination of personal information in social networks or chat rooms.

-          If you detect any internet-related threat to your child, immediately contact the Electronic Security Centre under the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies for help.
