An official opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan Women's Volleyball Super League was held on 8 November 2016.
During the first match of the Azerbaijan Super League 2016/2017, the “Telecom” team played against the “Azeryol” team. Although the “Telecom” team took the lead during the first set of the match, it made mistakes towards the end of the set and the game ended in favor of the “Azeryol” team with a score of 23 to 25.
Nonetheless, the “Telecom” team was able to regain the lead during the 2nd, 3rd and the 4th sets of the match (25:19, 25:15, 26:24) and defeated the “Azeryol” team with a score of 3 to 1.
The members of the “Telecom” team ( the captain Yelizaveta Samadova, Jovana Vesovich and Margarita Azizova), who showed the high level of performance during the game, scored 20, 18 and 15 points, respectively.
During the other match of the tournament, the “Azərreyl” team won the “Lokomotiv” team with a score of 3 to 0 (25:14, 25:10, 25:8).
