Research center on high technologies under the Azerbaijani ministry of communications and information technologies will start to produce system of light-emitting diode lighting, ministry informed.
It is planned to start production of LED lighting systems in mid 2012.
For Azerbaijan it is a new area. Currently around 30 percent of produced in the world electricity is used for lighting. Solid state lighting is power efficient and environmentally friendly method, which, unlike ordinary incandescent lamps, makes it possible to save consumed electricity to 80 percent.
LED lightning systems produced by the research center will be used for decorative lighting as well as general lighting. These are architectural buildings, streets, parks and arterial highways.
Also the Centre plans to produce infrared LED for their further use in fiber-optic communication lines. Production of infrared LED is planned to start in mid 2012.
